Glacial lake systems and high-altitude drainage basins define this interior Alaskan landscape as it appeared in the late 1970s. The eastern portion of the map is dominated by the northern reaches of Wood-Tikchik State Park, where the high-altitude Upnuk Lake and Chikuminuk Lake sit within deep mountain valleys. These waters feed complex river systems that flow toward the Kuskokwim and Nushagak watersheds, illustrating the hydrologic divide of the region.

The central and western terrain is marked by the headwaters of the Aniak River, which flows north from Aniak Lake. To the west, the Kisaralik Lake serves as a significant landmark at the base of the mountains, feeding the North Fork Kisaralik River. The lack of man-made infrastructure, roads, or settlements throughout the quadrangle highlights the wilderness character of the area during the photogrammetric surveys of 1972 and 1973.
