Blue Creek and the surrounding hollows of Adams County are defined by the winding course of the South Fork Scioto Brush Creek and its many tributaries. The area is characterized by a dense network of family-named ridges and hollows, such as Coleman Ridge, Hall Hollow, and Spires Hollow, which have dictated the placement of small settlements and rural cemeteries for generations. The confluence of Mill Creek and Blue Creek near the town center serves as a local focal point for the road network, including Blue Creek Rd and Drake Cemetery Rd.
