Shoshone National Forest defines the upper reaches of this landscape, where the Wind River flows through the southern corner. This high-country region is characterized by a complex drainage network, including the multiple branches of Du Noir Creek and Sixmile Creek. The terrain transitions from the open plateau of Esmond Park in the north toward the high elevations of Elk Ridge in the south.
