Monahan Flat dominates the central landscape of this 1950s Alaskan interior survey, appearing as a broad expanse of low-lying terrain at the headwaters of major glacial drainage systems. The northern reaches are defined by the Nenana River and its icy origins at Nenana Glacier, while the southern and eastern portions of the map track the glacial melt feeding the West Fork Susitna River and the expansive West Fork Glacier.

Administrative history is physically marked on the land by the boundary between the Third Judicial Division and Fourth Judicial Division, which cuts through the high ridges. Surveyors established critical triangulation points at VABM 5756 Fork and VABM 2693 Monahan, providing early geodetic control for this unpopulated wilderness area. The map also records smaller tributaries like Wells Creek and Thief Creek as they descend from the steep northern peaks into the alluvial basins.
