About this map

The Chigmit Mountains dominate this rugged coastal landscape within the Kenai Peninsula Borough, where high peaks and glacial ice meet the northern reaches of the sea. The 1950s topography captures a wilderness shaped by powerful water systems, including the Pile River and the Iliamna River, which carve deep valleys through the range. Along the southern coast, the Iniskin River empties into the tidal flats and mud of Iniskin Bay, a significant marine feature near Sugarloaf Mountain. In the eastern portion of the map, the high-altitude Roscoe Glacier feeds into Clearwater Creek below Roscoe Peak. This survey provides a rare look at the unsurveyed land lines and unmarked locations as they were recorded before modern development, preserving the original nomenclature of the Three Sisters Mountain region.
