Book Cliffs dominate the southern portion of this high-desert landscape where the border of Utah and Colorado meets the junction of Grand and Garfield counties. This 2017 survey documents a region defined by complex drainage systems and energy infrastructure, notably the Bar X Gas Field 6 and the Mesa Pipeline. The terrain is deeply incised by numerous canyons including Hells Hole Canyon, Cottonwood Canyon, and the series of four distinct Prairie Canyon branches. High points such as County Line Ridge and Taylor Overlook Ridge provide vantage points over the vast networks of Wild Cow Wash and Bar X Wash. Local transportation is limited to industrial and access routes like Buniger Rd and Roan Cliff Ridge Rd, which traverse the high plateaus and transition into the northern reaches of the Grand Valley.
