The Kenai National Moose Range dominates this mid-century portrait of the Kenai Peninsula, where the Kenai River winds through the Kenai River Canyon before emptying into the massive Skilak Lake. This period of Alaskana shows the early infrastructure of the Sterling Highway and the Moose Range Road as they began to open the interior to more than just the traditional water and trail routes.

Evidence of local residency and wilderness navigation appears at Stelters Ranch and various Cabin sites near Muddy Lake and Hidden Lake. The landscape is a complex network of glacial and riverine features, from the Skilak Glacier in the southeast to the Irish Channel and Lucas Island within the lake itself. Hikers and surveyors of the era would have relied on the Seven Lakes Trail to navigate between landmarks like Engineer Lake and Lower Ohmer Lake.
