1892 Map of Limon

USGS Topo · Published 1933

About this map

The junction of two major western transit lines at Limon defines the character of this Eastern Colorado landscape at the end of the nineteenth century. As the Kansas Pacific Railroad and the Chicago Kansas and Nebraska Railroad converge, they follow the natural grades carved by Big Sandy Creek and its tributaries. This intersection turned a small prairie stop into a regional transportation hub, anchoring the ranching country spread across the Elbert and Lincoln county lines.
