The Atchafalaya River and its complex network of waterways define this portion of the Louisiana basin, where the Morganza Floodway and Atchafalaya Basin Floodway meet. The settlement of Krotz Springs sits on the western bank of the river, while the communities of Lottie and Fordoche occupy the eastern side, connected by the historic corridor of Old Hwy 190. This area is characterized by its vital flood-control infrastructure, including the prominent Levee Boundary that snakes through the low-lying terrain.
