Agricultural development in the valley relies heavily on water management, evidenced by the High Water Canal, an Aqueduct, and the southern expanse of the Gunnison Reservoir. The Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad line runs through the valley, while the Old Railroad Grade indicates earlier transportation routes.
