About this map

Industrial and agricultural life in central Connecticut converges along the Quinnipiac River and Pequabuck River during this late nineteenth-century survey. The landscape is defined by a dense network of manufacturing villages including Plantsville, Milldale, and Forestville, many of which developed around the water power of local streams and the expanding rail corridor. The map captures the significant topographic relief of the region, from the trap rock ridges of West Peak and Ragged Mt. to the flat expanse of Scott Swamp.
