The Ouachita River defines the western edge of this 2012 survey, winding south through Monroe and past industrial and residential clusters like Maidco and Erco. The landscape transition from the dense urban grid of the city's south side into suburban and rural extensions is visible through a series of named neighborhoods including Green Terrace, Lincoln Park, and Kings Oaks. The eastern half of the map is defined by a complex network of waterways and lowlands, notably Youngs Bayou, Gourd Bayou, and the winding Bayou Mouchoir De L'Ourse.
