Inyo National Forest dominates this high-altitude survey of the Sierra Nevada, where the border between Fresno and Inyo counties follows the crest of the range. The John Muir Trail winds through a landscape defined by glacial activity, passing through the Sixty Lake Basin and over high points like Pinchot Pass. While the western slopes drain via the South Fork Kings River, the eastern face drops sharply toward the Owens Valley, where a burgeoning power infrastructure is represented by the Division Creek Powerhouse and an associated Pipe Line.
