Fossil Butte National Monument anchors the northeastern corner of this Lincoln County landscape, where the high desert terrain transitions into the significant geological formations of Fossil Ridge. The area is defined by a network of drainage systems, most notably the winding paths of Twin Creek and Bullpen Creek, which carve through the arid topography. Significant local water sources such as Ollie Spring provided critical resources for early ranching and travel in this high-altitude environment.
