About this map

The town of Osyka, situated at the southern edge of Pike County just above the Louisiana state line, serves as a focal point for this survey. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the Tangipahoa River and its tributary, the Little Tangipahoa River, which cut through the terrain alongside the main north-south rail and road corridor. Further north, the settlement of Chatawa sits near the riverbanks, surrounded by an exceptionally high density of small family and community burial grounds such as Saint Mary Cem and Knapp Cem. The eastern portion of the map is dominated by the drainage basin of Bala Chitto Cr, where numerous rural cemeteries like Mount Zion Cem and Bluff Springs Cem are scattered among the ridges. The intricate road network, including names like Magnolia Progress Rd and Centerville Rd, provides a clear view of rural land divisions and property access in the early 21st century.
