Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake define this central Finger Lakes landscape, where water-based commerce and early railroads intersect. At the turn of the century, a dedicated Steamboat Route still connected lakeside landings such as Lodi Landing and Lamoreaux Landing, while the Lehigh Valley R. R. and the Northern Central R. R. moved goods and passengers along the ridgelines. The western shore around Dresden and Milo Center shows the early industrial activity at Cascade Mills and Mays Mill, where local waterways were harnessed for production.
