The Black Fork Mohican River meanders through the heart of this landscape, anchoring the village of Perrysville and connecting a series of smaller rural settlements. This 2019 survey captures the transition between the agricultural uplands of Ashland and Richland counties and the significant water resources of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. To the north, the small community of Widowville sits among high ground near Harlan Cem, while the western edge is defined by the expansive Charles Mill Lake. Evidence of the area's early settlement is preserved in numerous family and community burial grounds, including the Old Presbyterian Cem and Shambaugh Cem. To the south, the terrain descends toward the recreational waters of Pleasant Hill Lake, showing how the managed river system has shaped local land use and infrastructure over time.
