The area is defined by a dense concentration of glacial water bodies, from the sprawling Portage Lake and Base Line Lake system in the east to the smaller Beaver Lake and Silver Lake in the west. This 2019 survey documents a well-developed recreational corridor including the Lakelands Trail State Park and the Pinckney Rec. Area, featuring specialized routes like the Pinckney Rec. Area - Potawatomi Trail.
