Kingston and its surrounding river valleys dominate this early twentieth-century landscape, where the Rondout Creek and Wallkill River converge near the Rondout River. The map captures a moment before the landscape was altered by massive regional engineering, showing the early path of the Ulster and Delaware RR winding through West Hurley and Ashton. The industrial and natural character of the region is evident in the cluster of the Binnewater Lakes and the steep elevation of Sky Top and Bonticou Crag to the south.
