Springdale marks the western edge of this Ozark plateau landscape, where the town's expansion meets the high relief of Fitzgerald Mountain. The terrain is defined by the winding course of the White River and its numerous river crossings, including Helton Ford and Neils Bluff Ford, which reflect a reliance on natural riparian passages. Rural life in the mid-20th century is mapped through a dense network of country schools and churches, such as the curiously named Accident Sch and Southern Grove Ch.

The eastern portion of the survey is deeply dissected by War Eagle Creek and Brush Creek, creating isolated ridges where landmarks like Mountain Home Sch were already noted as abandoned by the late 1950s. Near the growing hub of Springdale, the St Louis San Francisco railroad and the Springdale Airport signal the region's increasing connectivity, while older family landmarks like Phillips Cem and Wilson Cem preserve the genealogy of the area's early settlers.
