The Kichatna Mountains dominate the southern portion of this high-altitude landscape within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Tracing the drainage patterns of the late 1950s, the map illustrates the glacial origins of the Little Tonzona River and the West Fork Tonzona River, which flow northward from the icy expanses of Cul-De-Sac Glacier and Shadows Glacier.

A network of unmarked Trails provides the only evidence of human passage through this wilderness, crossing critical topographic landmarks like Shellabarger Pass and Mystic Pass. The northern section includes the Pingston Creek basin and the East Fork Tonzona River, while the lower reaches show the broad channel of the Dillinger River. This survey was significantly updated in 1980 to include the boundaries of the Denali National Preserve, reflecting the era's evolving federal land classifications.
