Near the river bends, the settlement of Vallonia serves as a central hub, connected by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad which cuts across the territory. Further south, Millport sits along the Muscatatuck, while the eastern edge features the community of Wegan and the associated St Pauls Sch and St Pauls Cem.

Significant local landmarks include the Miller Lookout Tower atop the high ridges and Starve Hollow Lake, which provides a focal point for recreation at the Campground. Genealogists will find a high density of family burial grounds, such as Smith Cem, Peters Cem, and Weathers Cem, scattered among the drainages of Hough Creek and Grassy Fork.
