1954 Map of Volcano Ranch

USGS Topo · Published 1986

About this map

The Volcanoes dominate the southeastern portion of this landscape, rising above the desert plateau within the Town of Atrisco Grant. This 1954 topographic survey, updated with aerial data from 1967 and 1972, details a transition period in the high desert of Bernalillo County. To the north, the Town of Alameda Grant borders the Arroyo de las Calabacillas, while industrial and ranching interests are represented by Black Ranch, Volcano Ranch, and an extensive Aqueduct system. The presence of the State Game and Fish Commission Bird Shelter indicates the area's role in local conservation efforts. A series of water tanks and a prominent Pipe Line trace the expansion of infrastructure across the Mesa as the outskirts of Albuquerque began to push westward.
