Wakefield and the settlement of Passport anchor this southern Illinois landscape near the border of Jasper and Richland counties. The terrain is defined by a dense network of small waterways, including Hurricane Cr, Sugar Cr, and Jesse Cr, which carve through the farmland to create subtle topographical relief. One of the few prominent rises, Onion Hill, stands south of the winding Coon Cr drainage system.
