The upper headwaters of the Unadilla River and Wharton Creek define this agricultural and early industrial landscape at the start of the twentieth century. The Delaware Lackawanna and Western RR cuts through the center of the region, facilitating trade through shipping points at West Winfield and East Winfield. This rail network, alongside the Southern New York Electric RR near Richfield, supported a dense network of small hamlets and post offices such as Columbia Center and Millers Mills.

In the southeast, the shoreline of Canadarago Lake remains largely undeveloped, anchored by the settlement of Deowango. The map captures the distinct topography of the Gulf near Elizabeth and the prominent Fork Mtn overlooking the meeting of the waters at Unadilla Forks. This survey, updated in the early 1950s from a 1904-1905 survey, preserves the layout of rural crossroads like Cranes Corners and Goodiers Corners before the consolidation of mid-century infrastructure.
