About this map

The Tongue River winds through the northern portion of this landscape, marking the border between Big Horn and Sheridan counties as it crosses from Montana into Wyoming. The complex hydrology of the late 1960s is evident in the man-made water systems, such as the Willson and Symons Ditch and Prairie Dog Ditch No 14, which supported local agriculture in an otherwise arid region defined by deep drainage basins. These basins, or draws, include the namesake Bar N Draw, Wheat Draw, and Sheep Draw, illustrating a topography shaped by seasonal runoff.
