About this map

The Goodpaster River winds through this interior Alaskan wilderness, serving as the primary drainage for a network of tributaries including Sevenmile Creek, Tenmile Creek, and Sand Creek. Based on aerial photographs from 1949 and 1953, the map captures a landscape defined by its waterways and elevation, with very little human imprint. The only evidence of permanent or semi-permanent habitation is a single Cabin located near the riverbank, accessible by a Tractor Trail that meanders through the valley. This path provides a rare glimpse into the early transportation methods used for surveying and seasonal access in the region. Other significant drainages like Shaw Creek, Eagle Creek, and Corda Creek segment the high ground, illustrating the complex watershed system that feeds into the Tanana River valley to the west.
