These landmarks once served as essential navigational aids for travelers crossing the Continental Divide in the mid-20th century.

Water distribution across this arid terrain is traced through several drainages, including the Oregon Slough, Long Slough, and Harris Slough, which eventually give way to the more defined channels of Sand Creek and Red Creek. The boundary between Fremont Co and Sweetwater Co bisects the southern half of the sheet, where the North Fork Red Creek winds through the hills.
