Deersville and its surrounding ridge-top communities are the focal points of this mid-century survey of eastern Ohio’s hill country. The landscape is defined by the massive impoundments of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, specifically Tappan Reservoir and Clendening Reservoir. These reservoirs, managed for flood control and recreation, drowned earlier valley floors, leaving old landmarks like Tappan Cem near the water's edge.
