Estero Island and the surrounding coastal mangrove systems define this late-1950s survey of the Lee County shoreline. The development of Fort Myers Beach is clearly visible along the thin barrier island, connected to the mainland via San Carlos Island and the Matanzas Pass bridge. Inland, the landscape transition is marked by an old Railroad Grade and numerous flowing wells scattered across the low-lying terrain near Truckland.
