The 1958 survey captures a complex network of mining history and early alpine recreation. Evidence of the region’s silver and gold mining era is visible through numerous tunnels and claims, including the Stevens Mine and Santiago Mine in the southern gulches, as well as the high-elevation Waldorf Mine.

Transport through these peaks relied on steep grades and passes, notably Argentine Pass and the visible Old R R Grade winding toward the vanished settlement of Graymont. The map also documents the mid-century footprint of the Arapaho Basin Ski Area near the North Fork Snake River. The terrain is deeply incised by steep drainages like Grizzly Gulch and Stevens Gulch, reflecting a landscape shaped by both intense geological forces and the persistent efforts of early industrial extraction.
