Mt McKinley National Park encompasses the majority of this mid-century topographic record, showing the interior Alaskan wilderness before modern infrastructure reached deep into these drainages. The terrain is defined by the sharp vertical relief of the Alaska Range, where Mt Wright and Double Mtn stand as prominent landmarks above the braided glacial river systems.

Hydrological patterns dominate the landscape, with the Savage River and Sanctuary River cutting deep north-south corridors through the mountains. Smaller waterways such as Jenny Creek and Hines Creek feed into these larger systems, while the southern reaches of the map reveal Refuge Valley and the sharp peak of Fang Mtn. This survey was compiled from aerial photography taken between 1949 and 1956, representing a period of systematic mapping for the territory of Alaska as it moved toward statehood.
