The northeastern corner is anchored by the rail junction at Jewett, where the Pennsylvania and New York Chicago and St Louis railroads converge. While the western edge is defined by the waters of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District at Tappan Lake, the interior of the quadrangle shows extensive surface mining activity. Large tracts are marked as Strip Mine or Strip Mines, cutting across the drainage of Standingstone Fork and Clear Fork.
