Logan Martin Lake dominates the central landscape of this Alabama survey, created by the construction of the Logan Martin Dam. This impoundment on the Coosa River flooded the valley between St. Clair and Talladega Counties, creating a new shoreline that redefined the local geography. Significant revisions shown in purple reflect the transition from the original riverbed to the reservoir system, including the formation of several islands like Merkl Island and Grissom I.

The surrounding hill country, including Stracener Mtn and Laniers Mtn, remains dotted with rural institutions.
