The Hudson River carves a deep valley through the southern Adirondacks on this sheet, joined from the north by the Schroon River at Warrensburg. The landscape is dominated by the Luzerne Mountains and a series of prominent peaks including Potash Mt. and Bucktail Mt.. Settlement is concentrated along these river corridors and the Adirondack Division railroad, which follows the Hudson's western bank through Hadley and Stony Creek.
