The Santa Clara River valley and its surrounding ridges define this 1952 landscape, which was updated in 1970 to reflect the addition of the Santa Felicia Dam and the resulting Lake Piru. This terrain is dominated by the Sespe Wildlife Area and Los Padres National Forest, where landmarks like Hopper Mtn and Arundell Peak overlook a network of canyons including Hopper Canyon and Modelo Canyon. Industrial activity is evident through numerous oil wells and oil tanks scattered across the hillsides, particularly near Modelo Peak. The valley floor is anchored by the settlement of Piru, situated at the confluence of Piru Creek and the river, where the Southern Pacific railroad and Telegraph Road provided essential transit for the citrus and agricultural communities of Buckhorn, Cavin, and Camulos.
