About this map

Silverton serves as the industrial hub of this high-altitude landscape, situated at the confluence of Mineral Creek and the Animas River. In the mid-1950s, the town was the terminal point for the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad, which followed the river valley to support the region's intense mining operations. The surrounding slopes of Anvil Mountain and Kendall Mountain are densely marked with specialized infrastructure, including the Mayflower Mill, the Lackawanna Mill, and dozens of individual claims such as the Aspen Mine and Brooklyn Mine.
