The terrain is dominated by the massive presence of Santa Fe Mountain and Squaw Mountain, the latter topped with a Radio Relay Station and Lookout. This mid-century survey captures a transition in the local economy, where legacy ranching properties like Evans Ranch Hdqrs and Dodge Ranch Headquarters are mapped alongside the Silver Spruce Mill.

The landscape is dotted with early mountain retreats and specialized lodging, including the Greystone Lodge, Beaver Brook Lodge, and the settlement of Brookvale. High-elevation landmarks like Captains Rock and Mount Judge overlook a complex network of gulches and canyons, including Beaver Brook and Sawmill Gulch, while several reservoirs serve the city of Golden.
