Shoshone National Forest contains this high-elevation landscape in Fremont County, defined by the towering summit of Wiggins Peak and the remote Washakie Wilderness. The topography is shaped by the deep incision of Brown Rock Canyon and the headwaters of the Wiggins Fork. Evidence of historical wilderness management and early surveying is visible through the alignment of the Eleventh Standard Parallel North, which divides the northern and southern halves of the quadrangle. High country transit is limited to the Absaroka Trail, which skirts the eastern canyons near Black Canyon Creek. Further south, the terrain rises toward Mount Kent, with drainage systems like Blue Creek and Bear Creek carving through the granite and timber. This 1991 revision, based on mid-century aerial photography, captures the protected character of the Absaroka Range before modern digital mapping updates.
