Piedmont Reservoir and Clendening Reservoir dominate the landscape of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District in the early 1960s. This survey illustrates the impact of flood control on the region, with the Piedmont Dam containing Stillwater Creek and submerging portions of the valley near the Baltimore and Ohio railroad line.

Evidence of the area’s extraction economy is visible through numerous Strip Mines and a Strip Mine north of Moorefield. Local history is preserved in the locations of Quaker Cem, Belmont Ridge church, and the Stillwater Cem.
