Tropic Reservoir and the headwaters of the Sevier River anchor this mid-1960s topographic study of the high-elevation terrain where the Dixie National Forest meets Bryce Canyon National Park. The landscape is defined by the stark verticality of the Paunsaugunt plateau and the Sunset Cliffs, carved by a complex network of seasonal drainages including Blubber Creek, Skunk Creek, and Proctor Canyon.

Remote infrastructure is sparse, limited to scattered Gaging Stations, the King Creek Campground, and a series of unimproved 4WD tracks. Geologic landmarks such as Natural Bridge and Black Butte stand alongside the county boundary dividing Garfield and Kane counties. The presence of a Gravel Pit and the various forks of Upper Kanab Creek suggest the area's primary functions as a watershed and resource management zone during the mid-twentieth century.
