The boundary of Johnson Co Ellis Co divides this North Texas landscape, where the settlements of Venus and Midlothian are joined by the intersecting lines of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe and Southern Pacific railroads. The topography is defined by the headwaters of several drainages, including Cottonwood Creek, Soap Creek, and Grassy Creek. Local history is anchored by the community of Mountain Peak in the east, which is flanked by Hopewell Ch and the Newton Cem.

Evidence of industrial and recreational land use appears through the presence of a Gravel Pit and Camp Hoblitzelle in the south. The mapping reveals subtle shifts in transportation history, such as the Old Railroad Grade north of Venus. Numerous spillways and elevation markers, such as Spillway Elev 594, indicate the managed water levels along the creeks that fed the growing agricultural and rail-oriented economy of the mid-20th century.
