1894 Map of Brady

About this map

The Brady townsite serves as the central hub of this late 19th-century reconnaissance survey, situated amidst the complex drainage patterns of Central Texas. The landscape is defined by the Colorado River winding across the northern boundary and the San Saba River cutting through the southeast corner, connected by a network of seasonal watercourses like Brady Creek and Onion Creek. Geographer C. H. Fitch recorded the area in 1886, capturing the early cattle-country settlements of Waldrip, Milburn, and Voca before the arrival of modern infrastructure. The Brady Mountains provide a significant topographic break in the western portion of the map, while Union Gap and Lookout Mountain stand as distinctive navigational landmarks in a territory transitioning from an open frontier to established ranching districts.
