1897 Map of Paradox Lake

About this map

The settlement of Hammondville and the nearby iron-mining works at Ironville anchor this 1895 survey of the Adirondack highlands. The landscape is defined by the industrial remnants of the late nineteenth century, most notably the And H. R. R. Abandoned rail line which previously served the iron deposits of the Crown Point region. Moving south toward Graphite, the terrain rises into the high peaks of Pharaoh Mt. and Treadway Mt., while the waters of Paradox and Chilson Lake provide the primary east-west corridor through the mountains.
