Brush Creek State Forest dominates this section of the Appalachian foothills in southern Ohio, where the landscape is defined by steep ridges and narrow hollows. The rural character of the early 1960s is preserved through its network of small communities and family landmarks, such as Bacon Flat and Jaybird. Along the southern edge, the historic resort area of Mineral Springs sits near the base of Peach Mountain, which is topped by a Lookout Tower.
