About this map

The Sisseton Indian Reservation occupies much of this landscape, which spans the state line between North Dakota and South Dakota. This 1964 survey captures a prairie environment defined by depressions and hydrological shifts, notably the Park Lakebed and the winding Kennedy Slough. Evidence of early community centers and Scandinavian heritage is found in the local landmarks of Bergen Ch and Nidaros Ch, both accompanied by their respective church cemeteries. The topography is also shaped by the headwaters of the Minnesota River and the Little Minnesota River in the southern portion of the sheet. Economic activity at the time is localized around several Gravel Pits scattered near the county boundaries of Richland, Sargent, Marshall, and Roberts.
