Ewan sits at the northwestern edge of this Whitman County landscape, where the Palouse To Cascades State Park Trl follows a former railroad corridor through the Palouse hills. The terrain is defined by a dense network of coulees and seasonal drainages, including Cottonwood Creek and Kamiache Creek, which carve into the plateau. To the northeast, the small settlement of Pleasant Valley is situated near the headwaters of Pleasant Valley Creek. The rural character of the area is further emphasized by family-named routes such as Harry Pierce Rd, Gordon-Hamilton Rd, and Bonnington Rd. In the southwest, Downing Creek and Coldwater Creek converge, while Stevens Lake provides a rare permanent water feature amidst the complex topography of the agricultural uplands.
