Leon Peak towers over a high-altitude landscape defined by an extensive network of reservoirs and alpine lakes within the Grand Mesa National Forest. This 2022 survey captures a high-country water management system where dozens of named impoundments, such as Island Reservoir and Leon Lake, are interconnected by creeks and irrigation features. The terrain spans the border of Mesa and Delta counties, characterized by flat-topped mesas and deep drainages like those of Youngs Creek and Leon Cr.
