North Cascades National Park encompasses this high-altitude landscape in Whatcom County, defined by its extreme glacial activity and high peaks. The massive Challenger Glacier dominates the northern slopes of Mt Challenger, while to the south, the Picket Range forms a formidable barrier of jagged summits. This 1989 provisional survey reveals a complex network of ice and water, including Whatcom Glacier and Terror Glacier, which feed remote drainage basins like McMillan Creek and Crescent Creek. Significant peaks such as Mt Fury, Mt Terror, and Inspiration Peak illustrate the verticality of the terrain. High-elevation lakes, including Azure Lake, Luna Lake, and the twin Wiley Lake and Eiley Lake, sit in cirques carved by the ice, highlighting the wilderness character of the region.
