Crows Nest Hammock and the surrounding Hendry County landscape are depicted here through a combination of traditional topography and 1971 aerial photography. This orthophotomap reveals a complex patchwork of wetlands and higher ground, where islands of vegetation like Dinner Island rise above the surrounding terrain. The transition between the northern and southern halves of the quadrangle is marked by a prominent township line boundary, specifically T 46 S and T 47 S, which serves as a rare straight line in an otherwise fluid environment. Human modification of the landscape is visible through the construction of a Levee and a network of unimproved routes, including a Private Road. These features, along with Rocky Lake, illustrate the early 1970s balance between natural water systems and emerging land management in this part of the Florida interior.
